In addition to raising quarter horses, Spring Canyon Ranch is also a small cow-calf operation. Forty pure-bred Limousin mother cows are bred with registered Angus bulls. Calving generally takes place from March to May. In early summer, the calves are branded, castrated and vaccinated with Ultrabac 8 and Virashield 6 + VL5. We do not use any hormones and only use antibiotics when necessary. After coming off high-altitude pasture, the calves receive pre-weaning booster shots in October or November.
